General Information - France

With the introduction of low cost, budget airlines, the Channel Tunnel and improved ferry crossing services, France has now become more accessible than ever. With Paris just a short flight away and Southern France reachable in a little under two hours it's no surprise that France remains a popular holiday destination with millions of UK tourists each year.

Visa and entry requirements

As with most European destinations, no visa is required to visit France if traveling for up to 90 days on a valid UK or European passport.

Health & Vaccinations

Vaccinations are not normally necessary when visiting France. However, it is always a wise precaution to ensure basic vaccinations such as Tetanus are up to date wherever you travel.

Driving in France

Most French car hire companies have offices at, or near, major international airports.

When driving in France take a photocopy of your driving license (including both paper & card parts). If you take the originals keep them somewhere safe. Also, remember that in France you drive on the right hand site of the road!

If you plan on hiring a car in France most rental companies require the main driver to be over 21.


Holiday Safety

As with most European holiday destinations serious crime against tourist in France is thankfully pretty rare. However, as with all countries there is a risk of "petty crime" such as pick pocketing, bag snatching, etc. By following a few sensible precautions you can ensure that you have a stress free, enjoyable break.

  • Avoid leaving valuables in unattended vehicles.
  • Use a money belt or avoid placing wallets in loose fitting or back pockets.
  • Keep to well lit areas.
